Doug Cloud raises $12,000, plus $50,000 personal loan

The Gig Harbor Republican running for the 6th Congressional District loaned his campaign $50,000, helping bring the total owed to Cloud by his campaign to more than $107,000 and the total in his campaign bank account to more than $44,000.

That includes $12,000 in contributions in the year’s second quarter, all from individuals rather than political committees, according to campaign-finance disclosures filed Sunday.

Cloud, a lawyer, is making his fifth run for the seat but believes his chances are better this time since he doesn’t have to face U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks. He’s one of five Republicans hoping to go up against state

Republicans Cloud, Young, Sauerwein running for seat; Angel not ready to say

The two Republicans from Gig Harbor who challenged Rep. Norm Dicks last year, attorney Doug Cloud and business technology consultant Jesse Young of Gig Harbor, will return to try again for what is now an open seat.

They’re joined by at least one other announced candidate, Bob Sauerwein of Port Orchard, who says on his website he works in the insurance industry.

Republican strategists will be looking for a more well-known candidate such as Rep. Jan Angel of Port Orchard, who said she hasn’t yet had time to think about running. She’s busy at the Legislature, Angel said.

Angel was a real estate

Doug Cloud holds forum Thursday with or without Dicks

6th Congressional District Republican candidate Doug Cloud is holding a town hall forum Thursday in South Tacoma. The Cloud campaign invited incumbent Congressman Norm Dicks, but had not heard back as of Wednesday, according to Cloud campaign manager Chris Caillier. The only debate held so far between the two was last week in Sequim, where Dicks got an unfriendly reception.

Thursday’s forum starts at 7:30 p.m. at the South Park Community Center, 4851 South Tacoma Way, Tacoma.

Norm Dicks and probably Doug Cloud among those confirmed for Whitman PTA forum

It might have to pass for the only Pierce County face-to-face between U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks and his Republican challenger Doug Cloud. But they’ll have to share it with quite a few other faces.

The Whitman Elementary School PTA has received a confirmation from Dicks’ campaign staff. A spokesman for Cloud said he had already scheduled a fund-raiser that evening with state Attorney General Rob McKenna but will try to reschedule.

The event is set for Whitman, 1120 S. 39th Street, at 6 p.m. on October 13.

But rather than a debate between the congressional candidates, it will be an

Congressional candidates file for office

A pair of Democratic Congressmen representing Pierce County, Adam Smith and Norm Dicks, made their re-election bids official today. Challengers to Smith, Dicks and Rep. Dave Reichert also filed the paperwork to run on the first day of the candidate filing period.

Some voters will have an alternative to the two major parties. Roy Olson of Olympia filed as a Green Party candidate to challenge Smith, the Tacoma Democrat.

Steilacoom Republican Jim Postma, whom Smith has beaten before, has filed to challenge him again. Expect Republican Pierce County Councilman Dick Muri to join them soon.
