Clint Didier still not backing Dino Rossi, but wants Patty Murray to lose

Clint Didier continues to resist endorsing fellow Republican Dino Rossi against Sen. Patty Murray, after losing to both in the August primary election.

In an open letter to Republicans on a new website his campaign consultant created, Didier explains why he offered only a conditional endorsement of Rossi, requiring pledges that Rossi won’t support increasing taxes or government spending and will support strong legislation against abortion.

He writes that the Republican Party has asked him for a “unity function” to “bring the two camps together,” but he won’t do it until Rossi makes the pledges he wants. He’s gotten

Didier withholds Rossi endorsement, lists demands

By GEORGE TIBBITS
Associated Press Writer

SEATTLE (AP) — Tea party favorite Clint Didier said Friday he won’t endorse fellow Republican Dino Rossi in the Senate race against Patty Murray until Rossi agrees to take strong positions against abortion, taxes and government spending.

Rossi’s campaign promptly replied that he won’t submit to “demands made by anyone, even people with whom he agrees.”

Didier, who was endorsed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Rep. Ron Paul, said that while he dearly wants “to send Patty Murray home with her pink slip in her hand,” he couldn’t make a halfhearted endorsement of Rossi and still remain true to supporters who gave him 12 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s primary.

Clint Didier not conceding Senate race

Clint Didier says he’s not giving up.

Despite polling at only 12 percent in early returns, to Patty Murray’s 46 percent, and Dino Rossi’s 34 percent, the former Redskins tight end told me in an interview he would wait until morning for any decision on conceding.

Why? Well, are you ready for some football … metaphors?

“I’m not giving up in this until the other 50 percent (of votes) are counted,” he said. “That’s like halftime of a football game.”

In his NFL days, “I never gave up until the last second’s off the clock,” he said.

“There’s a Hail

Sarah Palin records message for Clint Didier

Clint Didier wanted Sarah Palin in Washington campaigning for him in the final days before primary votes are counted, and it looks like that won’t happen.

But at least Didier is getting Palin’s voice.

The tea-party U.S. Senate candidate announced over the weekend that a recorded message from Palin will go out to about 500,000 voters.

Didier’s campaign said Palin’s recorded message calls him

a new kind of Republican. A true conservative dedicated to our nation’s bedrock principles of limited government. … Unlike establishment candidates who just talk about lower taxes, Clint has signed a pledge to do so.

New SurveyUSA/KING-TV poll has good and bad news for Patty Murray

At least she isn’t trailing her GOP rivals. But U.S. Sen. Patty Murray‘s 41 percent support isn’t exactly a show of strength for a three-term incumbent.

The poll surveyed 1,100 residents, 920 of whom are registered voters. From that sample, the poll identified 675 voters who had already voted in the primary or were likely to vote.

Here are the numbers: Murray 41 percent; Dino Rossi 33 percent; Clint Didier 11 percent; Paul Akers 5 percent, others 5 percent.

Again, Murray leads, but the three most-prominent Republicans in the race totaled 49 percent of the vote.

Two notes: the

An ode to Senate candidate Clint Didier

Here’s something that can play on those joint radio spots: A country song has been written for Clint Didier’s Senate campaign.

Listen to “Hell To Pay.”

The song went up on his website Thursday evening. Campaign consultant Doug Simpson wrote it and a band he knows, the Watchmen, performed it, said another of Didier’s consultants, Kathryn Serkes.

“We were talking to them about Clint and they wanted to do a song,” Serkes said.

“I think the subtitle is ‘Didier’s D.C. Ode.’”

Sample lyrics:

“You sold us out, you crossed the line/ when you took our

Clint Didier and Paul Akers, Rossi’s rivals, gang up

Clint Didier and Paul Akers made a joint announcement Thursday night that was beset by technical difficulties:

Listen to internet radio with squareonemedia on Blog Talk Radio

The gist of it: Didier and Akers are staying in the U.S. Senate race, but they’re joining forces to do joint radio commercials.

“This is unprecedented,”

Rossi, rivals sign on to tea party ‘Contract,’ want single tax rate

Republican Senate candidates Dino Rossi, Clint Didier and Paul Akers have signed on to the “Contract from America,” supported by many tea party groups and other conservative organizations.

The 10-point agenda, whose name is a takeoff of Republicans’ 1994 Contract With America, offers a series of promises for candidates running for Congress and other elected positions to adopt. Hundreds of candidates and a few members of Congress, including Washington state’s Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers, have made the pledge.

The planks reflect an agenda of fiscal and economic conservatism aimed at small government and low taxes: repeal the federal
