Bail reform measure inspired by Lakewood cop shootings winning big

Voters are overwhelmingly approving a state ballot measure inspired by the slayings of four Lakewood police officers by a convicted felon out on bail. As of this writing, the measure held more than 85 percent of the vote statewide.

House Joint Resolution 4220 proposes an amendment to the state Constitution to deny bail for persons charged with certain criminal offenses. The amendment would authorize courts to deny bail for crimes punishable by the possibility of life in prison, based on “clear and convincing” evidence that a defendant’s propensity towards violence likely would endanger others.

Income tax, liquor privatization measures stumbling; updates on state measures

Early results posted by the Secretary of State tonight have both ballot measures seeking to privatize liquor sales failing.

Initiative 1100 (the one backed by Costco) is trailing by nearly 4 points; while Initiative 1105 is getting bombed — down by more than 25 percentage points as of this writing.

In other results for ballot measures:

Tim Eyman‘s I-1053, which seeks to impose a two-thirds majority vote by the Legislature to authorize tax raises, is winning easily.

I-1082, the BIAW-backed measure that seeks to require employers to buy private industrial insurance, is failing big.
