Al Rosellini rose from immigrant family in Tacoma to governor’s mansion

Former Gov. Al Rosellini, a Tacoma native and Stadium High School graduate who pushed for advancements in Washington transportation, economic development, higher education and state institutions, died this morning at age 101.

Rosellini’s daughter, Lynn, confirmed the death from her home in Washington, D.C. She said her father, who grew up in an immigrant family that spoke Italian at home, always identified with the “underdog” and worked on behalf of working-class people.
