With Milton Mayor Katrina Asay leading Carol Gregory in the race for 30th District House Position Two, it appears Milton could get a new mayor soon.
Asay told The News Tribune last month she planned to resign as mayor if she were elected to the Legislature. She said state law doesn’t require her to step down as mayor.
“It’s my intent to resign,” Asay said. “I haven’t made an absolute decision.”
Asay said it could be a conflict of interest for her to serve in the Legislature deciding on matters that affect Milton, while continuing as the city’s mayor. Milton is a city of 6,540 that straddles Pierce and King counties.
