Morning update: special session Day 1

It’s day one of special session, and there’s little formal action scheduled as budget negotiations continue and some groups rally for their causes, including advocates of transportation projects.

Lawmakers’ campaign fundraising is frozen as of today, and they were making appeals for money up to the very end of the two-week window between regular and special session.

This week candidates can officially file for office, starting at 9 a.m. today – or 8 a.m. for the start of in-person filing at the secretary of state’s office on Union Avenue.

The office has an pamphlet explaining how to file for office and a list of the eight state offices open for election this year, including the Senate race in Pierce and Kitsap counties. We’ll see if anyone takes on Nathan Schlicher on the Democratic side or Jan Angel on the Republican side.
