Christine Gregoire for president? Leader of EMILY’S List asks pollsters to include her name in pre-2016 polling

In an article in a newish national political website called therun2016.com, Chris Gregoire is among a handful of Democrats who are part of the party’s “deep bench” of potential women candidates for president.

The article by former POLITICO writer David Catenese quoted EMILY’s List president

Stephanie Schriock urging pollsters to broaden their list of names being tested among voters. The names she dropped were: Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Gregoire.

But Schriock declined Thursday to say whether she’s spoken to any of the women named.

“I will not talk about the conversations I have had or not had with women who are thinking or are not thinking about running for president,” she said.

EMILY’s List is major funder of women Democrats who are pro-choice. Often its early support for candidates provides credibility that makes it easier to attract other donors. The name is an acronym for Early Money Is Like Yeast (it grows the dough).

Gregoire has so far been passed over for the high-ranking Obama Administration jobs she ha been a candidate for (or not). I guess one way to avoid being run through that wringer again in 2016 is to be the decider. The two-term governor, however, has never said a word about having national political aspirations.
