Transportation Secretary Lynn Peterson fired one employee and disciplined a second employee last Friday over engineering errors on cracked bridge pontoons, but her department isn’t naming names.

The state Department of Transportation has yet to provide the disciplinary records in response to a request I made Tuesday.

WSDOT spokesman Lars Erickson said the discipline is a result of an internal review of SR 520 pontoons that has also prompted repairs and design changes. The former secretary, Paula Hammond, said at the time there would be discipline for staff who didn’t forsee the cracking that is expected to cost tens of millions of dollars.

No one has been named to the officials’ former positions, he said.
