Open house on Tacoma Link expansion

Sound Transit is holding an open house from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Tacoma Dome Station so people can check out the latest ideas about how to expand the Tacoma Link light rail system.

Five alternatives are currently under consideration.

Three are finalists from an 18-month alternatives analysis process.

Two additional “hybrid” corridors, one requested by the City of Tacoma and another by a citizen’s stakeholder group are also being reviewed.

A potential partnership to expand Tacoma Link was approved by voters in 2008 as part of the Sound Transit 2 ballot measure.

Construction of the project is contingent on Sound Transit securing $50 million from a funding partner or partners and $50 million in Federal “Small Starts” grant funding to supplement $50 million in local revenues.
