The Senate Ways and Means Committee approved a no-new-taxes budget Thursday evening that could go to the Senate floor as early as today after a stop in the Rules Committee this morning at 9:30.
Clues to the floor vote can be found in last night’s committee tally, in which nearly all Republicans voted for the budget along with their Democratic ally, Majority Leader Rodney Tom, and four Democrats in the minority: Jim Hargrove, Sharon Nelson, Karen Fraser and Brian Hatfield.
Democrats Steve Conway, Bob Hasegawa and Jeanne Kohl-Welles voted no, and Karen Keiser, Ed Murray and Kevin Ranker voted to forward the plan without recommendation. One conservative Republican, Mike Padden, joined the Democrats in that latter neutral category.
Today, a group of House Democrats who focus on health care and human service issues say they will “issue their response” to the Senate budget at a noon news conference. Pierce County lawmakers Laurie Jinkins, Tami Green and Dawn Morrell will join Eileen Cody and Ruth Kagi at the event.
