Morning update: Session Day 81

Today at 10 a.m., House Transportation Committee Chairwoman Judy Clibborn releases her plan for how to spend existing transportation revenue.

Unlike House transportation budget announcements in past years or a Senate announcement Wednesday, there will be no news conference to roll out the budget. Maybe that’s because Clibborn has already held such a presser to explain her plan to raise taxes to fund new projects, which she still hopes to add to today’s scaled-back proposal.

Or maybe it’s because Republicans are not fully committed to this plan, unlike in past years when Democrat Clibborn and the GOP ex-Rep. Mike Armstrong jointly announced transportation budgets. There’s a new House Republican lead on transportation, Rep. Ed Orcutt, who said earlier this week he has been at the budget-writing table but that he didn’t know if the plan would win his approval.

A public hearing on the proposal is at 3:30 p.m. today.
