Kevin Quigley, Gov. Jay Inslee’s choice to head the state Department of Social and Health Services, will have a confirmation hearing before the Senate Committee on Human Services and Corrections at 10 a.m.
At 1:30 p.m., the Senate Law and Justice Committee considers another Inslee appointee, this one a holdover from the Gregoire administration: John Batiste, chief of the Washington State Patrol.
The House Appropriations Committee will hear testimony on House Bill 1982, which would repeal the requirement for the state lottery to conduct a Veteran’s Day Raffle. The raffle was supposed to raise money for small grants to troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, but in its first year ended up requiring major marketing to turn a profit, and in its second year lost the state roughly $100,000 because of low ticket sales. The bill hearing will take place at 3:30 p.m.
