Senate leaders plan to hold floor votes today on measures dealing with sex trafficking.

A telephone news conference will highlight how federal cuts under sequestration are affecting Washington’s homeless. Sen. Bob Hasegawa, D-Seattle, and groups including the Children’s Alliance and the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance are organizing the call.

Today or later this week, House Republicans plan to roll out a package of proposals they say will reform the transportation system.

Republicans say such changes are necessary before they will support higher transportation taxes. Some highlighted by Rep. Ed Orcutt of Kalama include shorter borrowing periods for bonds to build road projects; faster permitting for the projects; an exemption for projects from paying sales taxes; and scaling back of the environmental regulations they must meet.
