Fiscal committees are meeting to beat today’s deadline to pass bills onto the full chamber. On tap are several mental health bills, among others:
• The Appropriations Committee has scheduled a possible vote this morning on a bill that would increase penalties for juveniles found to be in unlawful possession of firearms.
• The House Transportation Committee is considering bills that would allow transit agencies like Pierce Transit to ask portions of their districts to increase taxes for improved service and local governments to impose a $40 car tab fee for transportation projects.
Today is also LEAP Legislative Day, part of LEAP’s annual conference aimed at motivating Hispanic students to pursue educational careers beyond high school, will bring approximately 500 participants to the campus. They will meet with elected officials and attend a dinner featuring a keynote address by state Supreme Court Justice Steven Gonzalez.
