Morning update: Session Day 40

Voting is expected on the floor of the House today, and among the issues that could come up is one of the most contentious: whether to require insurance companies to provide abortion coverage.

That measure, known by supporters as the Reproductive Parity Act, is among those on the floor calendar for potential votes.

It’s the last day for policy bills to receive votes in their original committees, but many of the committees have already wrapped up their work, leaving a host of bills dead for the year — although there’s almost always a way to bring ideas back to life in the Legislature, and budget-related bills are not affected by the deadline.
