Today is the swan song for Gov. Chris Gregoire.
Washington’s 22nd governor speaks to a joint session of the Legislature today in the final State of the State address of her eight years.
Lawmakers gather at 10:15 a.m. in the House chambers to honor Gregoire, Secretary of State Sam Reed, Attorney General Rob McKenna and State Auditor Brian Sonntag. All four are leaving state government after a combined public-service career of more than a century.
Reed, McKenna and Sonntag will all get an opportunity to speak, too — and as one legislative staffer noted, when have you ever seen an elected official pass up the opportunity to talk?
You can watch the ceremonies live on TVW.
Later, the House Transportation Committee will hold a work session at 3:30 p.m. on Gov. Gregoire’s transportation budget proposal, including her idea to fund K-12 school bus transportation using a gas tax. The work session will in Hearing Room B of the John L. O’Brien Building.
