From Cassady Coutler at the Hotel Murano in Tacoma:

The second the doors opened at the first floor ballroom at the Hotel Murano in Tacoma, the room flooded with people.  The crowd   grew until the room was packed and people were pressed against the walls. The energy was high the room buzzing with excitement as the results rolled across the big screen at the front of the room.

Children ran around the crowd of people, trying not to lose sight of their parents amongst the masses. The crowd erupted in a series of ear splitting cheers and low boos as the results for Florida, Ohio, and North Carolina rolled across the screen. The moment President Obama was project as the winner, the crowd exploded in a wave of screams.  People applauded, jumped up and down.

But that was only one race. The mood grew somber and quiet and eyes became glued to smart phones even as the national results flashed blue and red across the screen. Washington state results were still to come.

Derek Kilmer with his wife and daughters standing behind him  brought the anxious crowd to life.

“Discrimination of any kind is a thing of be past. Today we have decided to make that future a reality” he said. He was referencing the same-sex marriage Ref. 74 which was leading but close.

State Rep. Laurie Jinkins, easily winning reelection,  closed with speech regarding R74’s recent spike in the polls, with 52 percent in support of it.

We are standing on the brink of history” she said.
