It’s the kind of ad a candidate does when they have a sizable lead and lots of money – a positive spot that touts the incumbent’s work on the economy.

In this first ad of the general election season, two-term incumbent U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell features Tacoma’s Martinac Shipbuilding on the Foss Waterway.

“Good ideas and great people are the keys to a company’s success,” she says before talking of her work on legislation to give tax breaks to companies that hire veterans. According to the ad, half of Martinac’s 50 workers are veterans.

Cantwell will face Republican Michael Baumgartner in the November general election.
