Civic group Lakewood United plans a Thursday, Oct. 25, debate between 10th Congressional District candidates Denny Heck, the Democrat, and Dick Muri, the Republican. The event at Burs Restaurant near Steilacoom is not for the lazy: It starts at 7 a.m.

Kris Kauffman, a board member, said Lakewood United is nonpartisan and that the event is open to the general public. He also said it will be a debate that uses written questions submitted to a local municipal court judge for vetting.

The joint appearance of Muri and Heck will be somewhat rare. They were both on a radio program on KUOW in August and also will be at two other upcoming forums or debates – one Oct. 11 in Olympia and another airing on KCTS 9 on Oct. 22. But Muri complained last

week during a Steilacoom Chamber of Commerce forum that Heck wasn’t there, too.

Details of the other upcoming debates are as follows:

Thursday, Oct. 11 – 10th Congressional District candidates Denny Heck and Dick Muri appear jointly for a 7 p.m. forum at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. SE, Olympia. The League of Women Voters’ Thurston County chapter president Allyson Brooks is moderator and the event is co-sponsored by The Olympian. Thurston Community Television is taping the event for later airing.
Monday, Oct. 22 – Congressional candidate forum for districts 1, 6 and 10 airs at 1 p.m. on KCTS 9, again sponsored by League of Women Voters and moderated by Enrique Cerna and Kim Abel.
