The City of Tacoma has hired a new budget director to replace Bob Biles, who City Manager T.C. Broadnax dismissed in May. UPDATE: City spokeswoman Gwen Schuler just emailed to correct the title previously supplied for Wille. He will be the city’s budget officer, replacing Tanya Robacker, who was serving as interim budget officer.

Tadd Wille begins work Sept. 17. He comes to the city from San Antonio, where he was assistant director and grants administrator for the Office of Management & Budget.

Wille is at least the third former City of San Antonio staffer hired under Broadnax, who was an assistant city manager there before the Tacoma City Council hired him in December. Gwen Schuler, a former senior public information officer for the City of San Antonio, replaced Rob McNair-Huff as Tacoma’s chief community relations officer in July. Nadia Chandler, who worked with Broadnax as an executive assistant in San Antonio, has also joined Tacoma as “an assistant to the city manager.”

City officials say Wille – a native of Cody, Wyo. – has a master’s degree in public administration from Brigham Young University and more than 10 years of experience in managing budgets and financial reporting. He helped manage a $2.3 billion budget in San Antonio, coordinated the city’s federal stimulus awards of $187 million and oversaw the capital budget and general fund revenue budgets.

In his most recent role, he led the development and coordination of a consolidated budget action plan and annual performance report for the Department of Housing and Urban Development as well as administered community and housing development grants.

City officials have yet to release the terms of Wille’s employment, including his salary. UPDATE: The city said Tuesday that Tadd’s salary breakdown is $68.75 per hour, or $143,000.00 annually, which is currently reduced by 4.6% to $136,427.20 due to a temporary pay reduction through the end of 2012.
