Pierce Transit employees ratified an agreement Wednesday night that freezes pay for most employees and requires workers to take on more health care costs.
A proposed contract was finalized Aug. 17 after 15 months of negotiation.
A release from Pierce Transit and the employees’ union said employees “voted to ratify the agreement that has no wage increases and redesigns medical and dental benefit plans over a three-year labor contract.”
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 758 represents 708 Pierce Transit bus operators, mechanics, mechanics’ supervisors, customer-service staff and some administrative staff.

Lakewood, WA- Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local #758 members voted to ratify the agreement that has no wage increases and redesigns medical and dental benefit plans over a three-year labor contract.
“I am very pleased and proud our Pierce Transit employees/ATU 758 members ratified their contract,” said Lynne Griffith, Pierce Transit CEO. “We knew employees would recognize the importance of holding down costs so we can keep buses rolling.”
“We all worked hard to come together on a fair deal,” said Don McKnight, ATU Local #758 President. “As I said before, this is about saving jobs, those of our customers and employees.”
ATU Local #758 represents 708 Pierce Transit employees.
