Republican Linda Kochmar and Democrat Roger Flygare are leading a pack of candidates for state House in the 30th Legislative District, which centers on Federal Way and includes Milton and Pacific. Federal Way School Board President Tony Moore is one of three candidates in the race who are on the verge of elimination.

Democratic Rep. Mark Miloscia gave up his seat to run for state auditor, drawing Republicans Moore, Kochmar, and Boeing millwright Jerry Galland, along with Democrats Flygare, owner of a court reporting business, and Thom Macfarlane, a technology-industry consultant. Galland and Macfarlane were also trailing.

Kochmar, a 14-year councilwoman and risk manager for Lakehaven Utility District, is leading fellow Republican Moore, a wholesaler of tires who has presided over big changes in the local school system, by 27 percent to 19 percent.

In the district’s other House race, Republican Rep. Katrina Asay is in first place and Democratic Federal Way City Councilman Roger Freeman is leading the competition to challenge her. Freeman, recruited by Democratic legislative leaders, is defeating Boeing engineer Rick Hoffman in early returns.
