Tacoma: City hires new chief spokeswoman

We recently reported that six-year City of Tacoma spokesman Rob McNair-Huff was parting ways with City Hall — a resignation that came after new City Manager T.C. Broadnax sought to take Tacoma’s community relations office in “a different direction.”

That direction is apparently southeast — back to Broadnax’s former hometown of San Antonio, Texas.

Gwen Schuler, a former senior public information officer for the City of San Antonio, started her job today as Tacoma’s chief community relations officer.

“We’ve got a new boss,” Karrie Spitzer, another city spokeswoman, confirmed this evening.

Schuler, who worked for San Antonio for almost four years, most recently worked as director of communications for the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Spitzer said.

Details of Schuler’s responsibilities in Tacoma (and compensation)  have yet to been released.   She becomes at least the second former City of San Antonio staffer hired under Broadnax.  Nadia Chandler, who worked with Broadnax as an executive assistant in San Antonio, recently was hired as “an assistant to the city manager.”
