Business doesn’t take long to get behind McKenna

Business owners and executives must have liked what they saw from Republicans at the debate Tuesday.

The Association of Washington Business was staying officially neutral through the debate it sponsored between candidates for governor and attorney general, but didn’t even wait a day to endorse its favorites in the two races.

The AWB voted today in Spokane to support Republicans Rob McKenna for governor and Reagan Dunn for AG, and to endorse an initiative allowing charter schools in Washington.

They also endorsed Democrat Jim McIntire for state treasurer. Maybe they approve of his performance, or maybe they are bowing to the inevitable: McIntire is an incumbent who is running unopposed.

Here’s what AWB chief Don Brunell had to say about McKenna:

After reviewing the positions of both candidates, our board determined that Rob McKenna is the best candidate to lead our state into better economic times. They felt he better understands the competitive forces at play in our business climate and has clearly articulated solutions to many of the issues our members are tracking.
