A Puyallup auctioneer and Realtor filed today to run for the Pierce County Council seat currently held by Joyce McDonald.
Daniel “J.R.” Wikane is running as a Republican for the District 2 council seat.
Wikane is a U.S. Navy combat veteran who runs his own company, J.R. Wikane Enterprise. He has been active with PTA in the Puyallup School District, the Daffodil Festival, and a fund for fallen police officers. Wikane is running for public office for the first time.
“I think I have the experience to go in there and change some things,” Wikane said. “I’m a business owner. I know the books have to balance at the end of the day.”
One issue for Wikane is property taxes. He said they’re too high.
Wikane, 46, is married and has five children.
McDonald, R-Puyallup, announced today she is running for reelection for the District 2 council position.
