Democrat Eric Hingsberger acknowledges he’s not politically well-connected, but says he will take on a former lawmaker and the local chamber-of-commerce president in a race for the Legislature.

Hingsberger will run for the seat being vacated by Rep. Bruce Dammeier, who’s running for Senate. He said he’s a full-time student at Tacoma Community College where he studies health information management.

Here’s the e-mail the Puyallup resident sent to The News Tribune:

My name is Eric Hingsberger and I am a democratic candidate for State Representative for the 25th Legislative District. This area includes Puyallup, South Hill, Summit, parts of Fife and Edgewood, and the Midland community. I have registered my campaign with the Public Disclosure Commission and will file as a democratic candidate for the primary election once filing opens up in May. I plan on competing against Dawn Morrell (D) and Shelly Schlumpf (R).

I am writing to you today to advise you of my campaign and to tell you a little bit about myself.

I am a political newcomer. I have entered this election because I feel that our representatives don’t represent most voters on many issues. I also believe in a fair, open, and competitive election process in which voters should be able to choose candidates who closely represent them and their political views. Voters are desperately looking for new candidates that are much like them. I’ve gone back to school to gain additional skills to work in the health information management field. I stay home with my kids and take care of them. I worry about their future, especially their educational future. We’re a normal, middle class family that is not politically connected like many other candidates. We chose to live in Puyallup for the community and schools. In short, my ability to relate to the voters of this district is my greatest strength. I know them.

I hope you’ll take the opportunity to review my campaign website, www.electeric.info, in order to discover my positions on issues key to our state. The website is nearly complete with an estimated date of completion of May 1, 2012.
