Supreme Court says WSP must release records

The Washington Supreme Court handed down a ruling today that said the Washington State Patrol cannot block the release of accident records sought by a lawyer whose bicycle accident left him quadriplegic. You can read the 7-to-2 ruling authored by Justice Mary Fairhurst here and the dissent authored by Justice Pro Tem Karen Seinfeld here.

The ruling upholds the original findings of Thurston County Superior Court Judge Chris Wickham and also the Court of Appeals. At issue was the Patrol’s attempt to conceal records related to location-specific accidents.
