Gregoire’s office says she is meeting this afternoon with legislative leaders and budget writers to present a new proposal on the budget and government reforms.
That presumably includes a new arrangement of compromises on government pensions and health benefits and budgeting techniques, the sticking points that are dividing Democrats and Republicans and keeping the Legislature in session late.
The Democratic governor’s office is describing it as a “go-home proposal,” but we don’t yet know whether it will allow lawmakers to go home and avoid a second 2012 special session. Gregoire has offered such proposals before without breaking the logjam.
The deadline to finish in the current special session is midnight Tuesday.
