Marijuana legalization could be windfall for government budgets

Catching up on some news on the campaign front, here’s coverage by The Stranger’s Dominic Holden and the Times’ Jonathan Martin on an eye-popping prediction from the governor’s budget office.

It estimates Initiative 502 would generate more than $560 million a year in taxes, more than double what supporters had been claiming.

That doesn’t count savings from cutting down on arrests. Here’s the preliminary fiscal note from the budget office, with key numbers on pages 7 and 11:
