An anonymous donor has given the City of Tacoma money to clean the Tacoma Dome roof.

The donation covers up to $103,835 and the work must be complete by May 8, city spokesman Rob McNair-Huff said.

Crews will begin cleaning Monday. They were atop the roof today checking on rigging that will be needed during the cleaning process. The roof has not been cleaned since 2003.

Pioneer Masonry, the same contractor that last did the cleaning, has been chosen to clean the Dome roof.

In a written statement, Mayor Marilyn Strickland expressed her gratitude to the donor.

“The Dome is one of our most prominent landmarks, and it is a testament to the people of Tacoma that someone cares so deeply about this community to step up and make this donation,” she said.
