Gregoire: $1.7 million saved by cutting cell phone waste

Gov. Chris Gregoire’s office released a report today that says the state has reduced cell phone usage and waste by nearly $1.7 million after a state audit found the state was paying for unused services.

The audit that found the state could save $9 million to $18 million over five years is here, and a report from Gregoire’s Office of the Chief Information Officer is here.

The biggest savings – $1.15 million – was from eliminating 3,450 devices (1,563 as a result of Gregoire’s directive in November). Read full post.
