Sine die? House Democrats offer ‘Hail Mary’ budget ploy

With time running out on the clock in the Washington Legislature’s session, House Democrats offered a last-minute budget amendment late last night. Links to relevant documents are here.

It spends the most of any budget to date, $30.9 billion over two years and leaves the least in reserves.

If this new version of Senate Bill 5967 actually passes the House later today and is accepted in the Senate, the 60-day regular session ends on time tonight – before midnight. That’s a big if: A coalition of 22 Republicans and three Democrats passed a coalition budget last Friday over 24 Democrats’ objections, and it is not clear yet where Senate Democrats get their 25th vote for whatever the House might send over today.
