Gov. Chris Gregoire has appointed Olympia defense lawyer James Dixon to the Thurston County Superior Court vacancy created by Judge Christine Pomeroy’s retirement that took effect today [Feb. 29].
The full announcement is here and includes detail about Dixon’s background and education.

Dixon is one of four candidates for Thurston County Superior Court judge this year as many longtime judges retire. He said previously he was seeking the position to be vacated by retiring Judge Paula Casey.

Dixon's campaign also announced this week he plans a kickoff for what now will be a re-election – on Friday, March 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Olympia Ballroom. Details are at www.dixonforjudge.com.

As outlined in this post, others running include:

–Christine Schaller, a Superior Court commissioner, who was waiting to see who Gregoire appointed to fill Pomeroy’s position before saying which seat she will seek. Her campaign kickoff is March 29;

–Former state representative Brendan Williams, seeking the position to be vacated by Judge Tom McPhee. He kicked off his campaign earlier in the month;

–And Judge Lisa Sutton, seeking re-election to a full term in position 5.
