Barely three hours after Gov. Chris Gregoire signed a bill to legally recognize same-sex marriages in Washington law, opponents filed a referendum to overturn it this afternoon. Joseph Backholm of the conservative Family Policy Institute of Washington filed the challenge – Referendum 73 – at the Office of the Secretary of State in Olympia today.
