Same-sex marriage comes up for debate on the House floor at 1 p.m. Watch on TVW, which is renting extra server space to handle the expected Web traffic during the vote that could send the marriage proposal to the governor.

If the House makes changes, it would go back to the Senate for approval. Lawmakers like Rep. Steve Kirby of Tacoma still want to add a referendum clause that would send the proposal to a public vote.

But that seems unlikely. Even a supporter of the referendum clause, Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, said she voted against such a clause in the Senate because the House wouldn’t go along.

There’s bound to be plenty of debate, but there’s little drama about the outcome. Fifty House members, a majority, have signed on to the measure as sponsors and others, such as Rep. Tami Green and Rep. Glenn Anderson, have said they will vote yes.
