House passes e-impersonation measure unanimously

Victims of electronic impersonation on sites such as Facebook would be able to more easily sue their impersonators under a proposal that passed the House unanimously this morning.

These victims can in some cases sue for offenses such as slander and defamation, but the new proposal would allow them to sue specifically for e-impersonation, on the basis of invasion of privacy.

“As technology changes, the law has to keep up with it,” said Rep. Jay Rodne, R-North Bend, speaking to the House in favor of the measure.
