University Place City Council member Chris Nye announced today he will run for Pierce County Council position being vacated by term-limited Tim Farrell.

Nye, a Republican, will run against State Rep. Connie Ladenburg, a Tacoma Democrat who announced in November she’ll run for the District Four seat on the council.

Nye, 49, was elected in November to a four-year term on the University Place City Council. Nye said he decided to seek election to the County Council in part because redistricting moved University Place from council member Stan Flemming’s district to District Four, which will become an open seat.

Nye also said he wants to make sure there’s “a sense of urgency” for preparing for the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay Golf Course in 2015. “We need to get our community, our county ready for the U.S. Open,” he said.

Nye is president of MLSowners.com, an online marketing and listing service for homeowners. His campaign website is www.vote4nye.com.
