Gov. Chris Gregoire is due to address, and presumably join, gay marriage supporters in the morning.
Her office says the topic of her speech to advocates will be marriage equality, as supporters of marriage rights for same-sex couples call it. Given the audience and phrasing, it’s not hard to guess her position — even though in the past she has declined to weigh in on the issue, while backing equal benefits for gay and straight couples.
Sen. Ed Murray and other state lawmakers, including Tacoma’s Rep. Laurie Jinkins, have been gearing up for a big push for same-sex marriage in 2012 — including a campaign to voters, if opponents force it onto to the ballot.
