Lakewood Mayor Doug Richardson announced today that he will run next year for Dick Muri’s Pierce County Council seat.

Muri, the District 6 representative who is leaving the council because of term limits, has already announced his plans to make a second bid for Congress.

Richardson, a retired brigadier general and a senior manager for Northrop Grumman Corp., has served on the Lakewood City Council since the city’s incorporation in 1996.

“Pierce County is facing near double-digit unemployment and families are being hit hard during these tough economic times,” Richardson said in a release. “Government, at all levels, needs to set the right priorities, rein in spending and live within its means.”

District 6’s boundaries were redrawn in this year’s redistricting process to include part of Parkland. Public Disclosure Commission records show Richardson registered as a Republican.
