Politico: Ron Sims leaving HUD; returning to state for another run at governor?

OK, the first part is fact, the second part speculation.

But Politico’s Ken Vogel has confirmed that former King County Executive Ron Sims has resigned his senior post at the federal department of Housing and Urban Development. He then wonders if it has anything to do with Monday’s decision by Gov. Chris Gregoire to retire after two terms. Sims lost to Gregoire in the 2004 Democratic primary.

Here is the statement from HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan:

“I wish Deputy Secretary Ron Sims the very best as he leaves HUD and returns to his native Washington state. Even before Ron Sims joined HUD, I’d heard of this bold and visionary leader from Seattle who

was nationally recognized for his work on transportation, climate, health care reform and urban development.

It wasn’t just his breadth of experience that made him the perfect fit for HUD. It was also the fact that he brought an unmatched level of energy to everything that he does. Ron has the unique ability to connect with, inspire and motivate anyone.

HUD could not have accomplished all that we’ve accomplished without Ron’s leadership. And his contributions to the agency were at great sacrifice to himself and the family he left behind in Seattle. For two years, Ron gave it his all. I thank Ron for the sacrifices he, his wife Cyan and the entire family made, and for the human touch and passion he brought to helping those in need.”

Noooo…..this will turn the governor’s office over to the Republicans. Inslee is the perfect candidate for both sides of the mountain. Stay away, Ron.

  2. steilacoomtaxpayer says:

This is great news!! McKenna wins!!

  3. Ron just wants another Soprano’s “No Show” job in Washington State.

  4. Jay Inslee is a moron. But seeing as how most of the ignorant lemmings in Western Washington -primarily King county- vote party (democrat) lines don’t be too surprised if an imbecile follows the ex-imbecile gov’s departure.

  5. Pat_riot says:

lolwut: 100% correct , now watch the lemmings chatter.. hahaha.

Ron Sims is as big of a joke to politics, as Dave Simms is to announcing M’s games.. both are simply pathetic.

  6. lovethemountains says:

Yuck to Sims and Yuck to Inslee.

  7. bruce bessler says:

let the crook stay in DC with the rest of them. Sims is NOT wanted back, just like Arkansas didnt want the Clintons back. Inslee is a liberal tool that would seek to take away ones rights and raise taxes.

  8. I have read 7 excellent responses to Sims apparently coming back to possibly running for governor. If another Seattleite is elected you can expect more running of the State from Seattle.

  9. In reading what Shaun Donovon had to say about Sims,I get the impression that Donovon thought Sims did a better Job than any one in Washington did!By that I mean, anyone,GET IT?

  10. BlaineCGarver says:

Wow…..HUDs exceptional luck is WA’s really horrible luck….Can we pass a law banning him from this state?

  11. Not only NO but F-NO!

  12. taxedenoughintacoma says:

Ron Sims would be a outstanding canidate. He has been in D.C> with President Obama and know how to run government. Sims would be the closest thing to having Obama himself in the Gov. Mansion.

    Run, Ron, Run………

  13. taxedenoughintacoma says:

oops, fell off the turnip truck but back on now!!!!!

Just wanted libs to think I turned, NOT!!!!

  14. Proconsul8 says:

Yah, like HUD did great things with Sims’ “leadership”. Are the Democrats so pathetically void of viable candidates for Gov that they would consider Ron? Oh that’s right, Seattle has Jim McDermott as congressman-for-life. They would certainly feel Ron would make a good Guv!

  15. It is wonderful news that Ron Sims is coming home to Washington state.

He is an inspiring and effective leader and a tremendous advocate for children and families. I bet he is a great neighbor ~ unlike the hateful people who seem intent on spreading poisonous comments here without doing a bit of good for our community.

Many thanks for the great work done at HUD while in DC, Ron. Welcome home.

  16. Thank you, PNWmom. I was so disappointed at the tenor of the comments until I saw yours. It is one thing to disagree with someone’s politics. Quite another to say we should ban him from the state or call him a crook. I happen to think he is a thoughtful leader, who listens to what his constituents care about. He gives a lot of himself to the job because he believes in being a public servant and a leader. He also happens to be a very nice person. I might not agree with McKenna’s politics, his values may not be my values, and I certainly would not vote for him for that reason regardless of his party, but I am not going to post a bunch of rotten things about him because I disagree with him. There is no productive discussion to me had in that and it would not change anyone’s mind my way if I did.
