Measuring the drapes? Nah, Rep. Rolfes just moved on in

If Rep. Christine Rolfes is chosen for a Senate seat, she won’t have to go far. Her stuff is already moved into the Senate office she hopes to take over.

It may seem like extreme overconfidence — until you realize House members are pretty much homeless right now.

With the House office building under construction and temporary trailer office space carted away, they’re squatting anywhere they can.

Some have relocated to home districts. Others found vacant spots in the Legislative Building. Rolfes is unusual in that her aide has set up shop in the Senate office building — specifically, at a vacant desk in Sen. Phil Rockefeller’s office.

The Bainbridge Island duo apparently had the same space-sharing arrangement last year. They renewed it during the special session, shortly before Rockefeller announced he would retire effective June 30, setting off political dominoes.

Rolfes wants his job, and no one else has stepped forward. Her ascension seems like enough of a sure thing that a couple of other pols have announced interest in her job, the Kitsap Sun reports.

Kitsap County commissioners could pick a replacement for Rockefeller as early as July 25. In the meantime, Rolfes isn’t exactly tapping her foot waiting for Rockefeller to move his boxes out of his office. She, like other legislators, has gone home now that the session is over.
