UPDATED: McKenna calls for ‘new direction’ for state

Republican Rob McKenna launched his bid for governor tonight in a speech promising a “new direction for Washington state.” His talk at a Bellevue-area high school touched on his roots as a Boy Scout and hamburger cook, his family, his bipartisan legislative successes – and the need for a better education system that can lead to better paying jobs in the future.

The two-term attorney general is seeking to be the first GOP governor in the state since John Spellman’s single term ended in early 1985. McKenna said he wants to listen to small-business operators and reduce their state costs, boost jobs, put more of the state budget into public schools and higher education, and streamline state government.

  5. I’m still wondering why nobody has checked to see if Rossi is running. Seems like a biennial thing now.
