Dennis Kucinich to run in Washington? (And we mean for Congress, not president)

Seattle Times political reporter Jim Brunner has this fascinating post about what he thought was just a crazy rumor – that Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich might move to Washington state and run for Congress.

But as he looked into it, he not only couldn’t refute it but even found evidence that the darling of the political left just might be considering such a move. It’s all because his district might be eliminated or altered as Ohio must contract due to the latest Census. Such a strategy could explain a recent rash of Kucinich appearances in the state.

Brunner ask Kucinich’s spokesman about the rumors and received something that sounds pretty close to a confirmation, not that he would run here but that he is considering it….

U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich

After people learned that Kucinich’s district might be eliminated or redrawn by the Ohio Legislature’s Republican majority, Kucinich “received requests from people in 20 states, including Washington, encouraging him to move and run in their area,” said the statement from press secretary Nathan White.”Congressman Kucinich appreciates the interest expressed in his public service. As he has repeatedly said, he fully intends to remain in Congress; he just doesn’t know in what district he will run,” the statement said.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer chases the Times story about its local congressman here.

I would think that the only district we could win, Seattle, is already held by a popular crackpot, Jim McDermott. Most observers believe that the new district’s population will be at least marginally more conservative than Seattle’s. And even if he could find a district far enough to the left, it’s hardly likely that voters would want a carpetbagger with no knowledge of the state representing them.

Welcome, as a liberal I would welcome a strong voice in this state.

  3. He’s the last thing we need – an out of state, fringe ideologe.

We have no shortage of good, effective, Democratic candidates in this state and have no need to import a soon-to-be-former Congressman from Ohio who has never managed to get a piece of legislation passed.

  5. Roberta says:

Are there any Republicans from OH in the US House? If so, has Kucinich considered moving to that Republican stronghold in OH and running against a Republican?

Has Kucinich considered running against the OH Gov if the OH Gov is recalled?

Just what the people need…a carpetbagger from the midwest. This state has enough problems without adding a has been comic to the mix!!!
