Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy says she and her team “have accomplished a lot in two years” and she’s looking for support in her reelection campaign.

McCarthy made the comments in a Facebook post on Saturday, asking friends to check out her new website and inviting them to her campaign kickoff.

It’s set for 5 to 8 p.m. April 27 at the Varsity Grill, 1114 Broadway, Tacoma.

On her reelection website, McCarthy says that under her leadership the county has “re-prioritized the delivery of core government services, trimmed the size of government, consolidated programs, and challenged managers to find operational efficiencies while improving the quality of public service.”

She also points to the preservation of farmland and open space as examples of the work she and her team have done to ensure quality of life for future generations.

McCarthy, a Democrat, served as county auditor before her election as executive in 2008. She’s also a former member of the Tacoma School Board.

Since she took office in 2009, she and the Republican-dominated County Council have frequently sparred over budgetary and other issues. She won the 2008 election over then-County Councilman Shawn Bunney, a Republican.

She’s the only candidate who’s filed Public Disclosure Commission paperwork for the 2012 Pierce County executive election. Her campaign has reported raising about $1,600 so far, according to the commission’s website.

She and her husband, Superior Court Judge John McCarthy, have four grown children and three grandchildren. They’ve been married for 36 years.

You can read her biography on her reelection website.
