Tacoma Ethics Board clears Campbell in complaint; still assessing allegations against Strickland

Tacoma Ethics Board members tossed out a citizen complaint against City Councilman Marty Campbell during a meeting Thursday night.

The board also decided to take more time in assessing two complaints against Mayor Marilyn Strickland.

Following separate closed-door discussions, the board dismissed a complaint that Campbell misled a citizen about a public meeting.

The allegations against Campbell, “even if true,” would not constitute a violation of the city’s ethics code, Sean Armentrout, the five-member panel’s chairman, announced.

Local gadfly John Hathaway had complained Campbell misled the operator of an Eastside food bank about a recent public meeting.

Campbell told The News Tribune last week he did nothing wrong. He could not be reached for comment this afternoon.

Regarding Strickland, Armentrout said the board wants more information before it can rule on complaints about the mayor, the meeting recording shows.

The complaint contends she violated the code by using airline miles donated by a local businessman for a recent trip to Asia, as revealed by Lewis Kamb’s reporting.

She told The News Tribune earlier this month she used the miles to save the city the expense; she has since said she’ll reimburse the businessman.

Foreign corruption practices act FPCA,,,, clear violation by Strickland ,,,,,anything of value direct or indirect is a violation of any federal contractor and any corporation doing business overseas ,,, anti kickback laws prohibit this very example!!!!!

  2. dirtydan54 says:

You forget that laws don’t apply to these individuals. Don’t you know that by now?

  3. Do not worry, the Mayor will not be charged with any thing! When was the last time you were aware of any politician or Athlete being charged or convicted of any Misdeed? This is the good old U.S.A.and don’t expect the Politicans to have to live by the same standards that is demanded of the Public. If you don’t believe that,Where have you been the last 50 years?

  4. The last I heard your baby faced editor John Henderickson told Hathaway he was no longer a gadfly but a News Tribune competitor and ergo no new information would be sent his way. Nice reporting Lois Lane. What ever happened to Jimmy Olsen?

  5. Come on TNT, Ron Chow, besides gifting her miles, donated hundreds of dollars to her campaign. I heard Chow was in the Council/Mayor offce last week doing who knows what. The ethics board should ask for a copy of her schedule for the last few weeks if they want to be thorough. The TNT reporters do have faces for print media that is for sure.
