The special lame-duck session of the Legislature has adjourned after the state Senate voted 30-9 to send a package of budget cuts to Gov. Chris Gregoire.
Leaders of the Republicans and Democrats in the Senate voted in support of the measure, a bipartisan deal hammered out earlier in the week.
Four Republicans voted no, including Sen. Pam Roach of Auburn and Sen. Mike Carrell of Lakewood. Carrell opposed the cuts because they included a ratification of Gregoire’s closure of McNeil Island Correctional Center. Five Democrats voted no, including lame-duck Sen. Claudia Kauffman of Kent.
Gregoire worked with legislative leaders to come up with the deal and is expected to sign it.
Previously: the House approved the cuts 86-6.
