Patty Murray wins; Dino Rossi concedes Senate race

Republican Dino Rossi has called Sen. Patty Murray to concede, making it official: Murray has won a fourth term in the Senate.

After a hard-fought and expensive election and three days of ballot counting, Murray opened up an insurmountable lead of nearly 50,000 votes on Rossi out of 1.8 million votes cast. Of more than 600,000 votes left to be counted, nearly half are in King County, where Rossi is losing badly.

While Rossi gained today in places like Spokane County, he lost a little ground in Kitsap County and in Pierce County, where his lead shrank by about 800 votes.

The Democrat will hold a 7:30 p.m. press conference to declare victory.

Rossi’s statement:

This evening, I called Senator Murray to offer my congratulations on her re-election to the U.S. Senate.I ran for the Senate because I believe we need a basic course correction from where Washington, D.C. has been taking us and to make sure this country is as free, as strong and as prosperous in the future as it has been in the past to preserve the best of America for future generations.

That was a message that found a very receptive audience all across this state, though not quite receptive enough.

We’re sending at least one new person, maybe two, to Congress to represent Washington State.  We elected a host of new people to the state legislature — all on the message of controlling spending and helping the private sector grow, saying no to government overreach and confronting some very difficult challenges in front of us.

You’ve heard me say during this campaign that the problems we face are too big for one political party.  They are, and I can say that with absolute certainty.

It is my hope that the new House and Senate will address them seriously, responsibly, and in a bipartisan way.  I hope the President and Senate Democrats will join the new House majority to face these problems head on rather than leaving them for the next Congress or the next generation.

My hope going forward is that our representatives in Washington, D.C. will be thinking about how an issue affects Bellevue, Bellingham or Bingen, not the D.C. Beltway.

I hope they will be thinking about the small business owners struggling to stay open and the people that work there who are trying to pay their mortgage and feed their kids.  I hope the things that are done in D.C. make it easier for these folks, not harder.

The lesson I leave you with is one we learned as kids: we’re all in this together.  If Washington, D.C. doesn’t act to help the economy grow and solve this massive spending and debt, it’s going to hurt us all.  It won’t distinguish by political party.

Let me close with one more heartfelt thank you to the people of our state.  Thank you for letting me have an honest, straightforward discussion with you about our future.

God bless you, our country, and this wonderful state we call home.

Don’t run again Dino, you don’t have the coconuts to rip your opponent apart. Now we have to deal with this witch for another 6 years. Luckily, she wont have any power.

  2. the3rdpigshouse says:

Only the most ignorant electorate would put that dullard Murray in the U.S. Government!! The rest of the country is awakening to the fact that they really made a terrible mistake electing socialist democrats in 2008!! And here we have Washington State stuck on “STUPID”!!!

  3. Candles16 says:

Maybe we need a three strikes law for politicians – lose 3 major statewide elections and you get get barred from running again in those races.

While I suggest this in jest we do need to get rid of these perpetual candidates, especially ones who don’t believe in public service except for what they can skim from special interests and lobbyists.

  4. lucysmom says:

Congratulations to Patty Murray! Congratulations to the majority of the voters of this state. It is difficult, but possible, to actually vote on a candidate’s merit and not be taken in by the political advertisements.

  5. demeter says:

congratulations to patty murray and her supporters!

Now on to 2016 dump corrupt patty!

  6. pen_mightier_than_sword says:

So Pig, you think that ODonnell and Angle are better thanMurray!?

  7. summit98446 says:

Karl Rove’s corrupt checkbook & the most Republican year since 1948 didn’t seem to be enough for this 3-time loser.

Uh….I hate to break this to you, but Murray is the 4th ranking Senator in the Senate Majority.

You might want to brush up on your civics….and I don’t mean the 1995 Honda

  9. First_Lefty says:

What the heck. Dino hasn’t come close to Christine O’Donnell yet.

Dino, take a tip from Chrissy….don’t pay the bills, Rove and friends will come along with checkbooks in hand when you run again.

You don’t have to pay your mortgage, but you can get your teeth fixed and a makeover.

I’m donating the first $5 for a bus ticket to move 3rd Pig to Idaho, where he’ll be much happier. Anyone else?

This is great news. I’m glad to see Murray re-elected. We need more good people like her in the Senate. Murray has a lot more smarts than Rossi, and Murray is a better representative for Washington. We also need more women in the Senate, so she’ll help the country in more ways than one. I’ll also be donating money to her campaign again when I’m paid next week. You can donate too by visiting: http://www.pattymurray.com/home. She makes this Democrat proud! Go Murray!!!

    ….speaking of coconuts……how’s Joe Miller?

All dressed up and no place to go. Taken down by a write in.

There’s nothing like Palin support in Alaska, huh?

  13. dustdevil11 says:

Bring back Clint Didier in 2012 when Cantwell runs for senate again.

  14. truthbusterguy says:

He should not have given up until every vote was counted. There are still 670,000 statewide votes left to count. Dino can’t win because he doesn’t have a fire in his belly to really fight for us. I busted my butt for him and he just quits before the count is over???????? I’m pissed. Hate a quiter.

The dems would not give up this easy. They would pay for recounts until they win. Dino, go away.

  15. Dino…

Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, you skeezy, slimy snake oil salesman.

Please go the hell away now and leave our state in peace; you can’t buy an election here.

  16. everythingalaska says:

First_Lefty , you didn’t get my sarcasm…..she is to stupid to have power

  17. First_Lefty says:

“she is to stupid to have power”

    Uh huh……

Forgive them Gawd for they know not what they do……LOL

  18. First_Lefty says:

    Hey….Alaska…

I hate to refudiate you, but I think you meant “two stupid”

Yeah, then we can talk to the millionaire wheat farmer about subsidies and how that works with the TEA Party.

    Palin/Rossi 2012

  21. First_Lefty says:

“Her keenest impact has come from tapping federal coffers to benefit workers and programs.”

“She has helped direct federal money to build Sound Transit light rail, clean up the Hanford nuclear reservation, repair the Howard Hanson Dam, pay for ferries and construct and repair countless miles of roads. She also has funneled billions of dollars to veterans, who have few better advocates in Congress.”

    Yep. to stoopid

  22. pjizant says:

Told ya he was gonna lose.

  23. headshaker says:

hey, angry people, look up “inverted totalitarianism” on wiki…. haha, that’s you.

And, this is a three strikes state, so, adios Dino.

  24. I agree that Dino shouldn’t run for office again. He’s too good for Washington. Dino – you’re still a young man with a young family. I hope you prosper greatly in your private endeavors and thank you for everything! It’s not your fault most people are puppets and lemings.

  25. I say let Dino run as often as he wants, he should make a go against Cantwell.

And, I want implore 3PH to stay here in WA. He accurately represents the conservative voice.

  26. aranciata says:

It is common for populous areas to be heavily populated with moochers and goldbricks. When one takes a look at Guardian Marine and the transfers of federal money -> Guardian Marine -> Patty Murray’s various campaigns are nakedly on display it just illustrates just how corrupt the majority of voters in this State are. It also illustrates why the TEA Party message resonates in the heartland of America, which includes most of this State outside of metropolitan King/Pierce/Snohomish counties.

  27. EatonvilleTaxPayer says:

I thank Mr. Rossi for giving it his best shot and not being a sore loser, congratulate Ms. Murray on her win (though I also would have preferred every vote counted before throwing in the towel).

I voted for Didier and would vote for him again. I have always felt Didier was doing exceptionally well and gaining a lot of ground before Rossi entered the scene. It’s too bad. I really hate to see 6 more years of Murray, but the vote is in. Unfortunately for MOST of the state, we are forced to accept Murray whether we like it or not.

If it wasn’t for the city folks in King County…she wouldn’t have had a chance. I will never understand the “city voter mentality” and truly wished King County was it’s own state so the rest of the state wouldn’t be controlled by the heavily populated cities there.

I have to agree…it is time for Rossi to hang up his political hat. 3 times now, close, but no go. I believe his reputation has something to do with his losses.

It’s time for fresh blood. New, independent candidates with excellent reputations and intentions to step up to the plate. Given a good candidate I do feel Washington voters would be more apt to vote in somebody new.

At least we sent a strong message on the tax issues. YAY!

  28. If only Dino had taken the Didier pledge Senator Patty would be packing her tennis shoes. Dino is truly best at losing.

  29. duckfan4ever says:

Thank god Dino lost again! Hopefully, he will take the hint and go away. How terrible it would be for this state to have a U.S. Senator who is such a sleazy, smarmy, dude with such a silly name as “Dino.”

  30. speakout says:

An odd reaction considering that there are still several hundred thousand votes to be counted, over 250,000 in King County alone, according the Secretary of State web site. Shame on you Dino for quitting so soon with so many votes yet to be counted. But quit or not I still want every vote counted, even those boxes they always hide for the recounts.
No one should ever concede an election until after ALL the votes have been counted, they shouldn’t even be allowed to issue partial count numbers, wait for the final count then release the results, the media will be happy to keep speculating in the meantime, it’s what they do best anyway.
