If early returns hold out, Sen. Pam Roach of Auburn is on her way to extending her tenure in the Legislature into a third decade.

She was defeating fellow Republican Matt Richardson by a 2-1 margin in early returns.

The nasty race has overshadowed another Republican-vs.-Republican race in the 31st Legislative District, for a seat opened by the departure of Roach’s son, Rep. Dan Roach.

In early numbers there, Enumclaw School Board member Cathy Dahlquist was leading Pierce County Councilman Shawn Bunney by a smaller margin. During the primary, Bunney came back in later returns after an initially poor showing on election night. Can he do it again?
