Clint Didier continues to resist endorsing fellow Republican Dino Rossi against Sen. Patty Murray, after losing to both in the August primary election.
In an open letter to Republicans on a new website his campaign consultant created, Didier explains why he offered only a conditional endorsement of Rossi, requiring pledges that Rossi won’t support increasing taxes or government spending and will support strong legislation against abortion.
He writes that the Republican Party has asked him for a “unity function” to “bring the two camps together,” but he won’t do it until Rossi makes the pledges he wants. He’s gotten some grief for his stance:
I am receiving both applause and consternation. Therefore, an explanation is in order. I want Patty Murray to lose in November as much as any Republican. That is exactly why I have chosen the course I have in making a conditional endorsement.
