Just in time for Independence Day, the City of Tacoma sent out the following press release this morning, clarifying what you can expect if caught with fireworks in the city limits:

Fireworks are prohibited in Tacoma

All fireworks are illegal within the Tacoma city limits. Violators of the fireworks law are subject to a fine and the confiscation of their fireworks.

Most fireworks violations are class 2 civil infractions and can result in a $257 fine; citizens using fireworks are still subject to arrest for other charges (i.e. arson, reckless burning, and assault). Fireworks are only permissible within city limits when a permit has been issued for a sanctioned public event.

Citizen’s can report fireworks violations from July 1 to July 6 by calling (253) 798-4722. If the fireworks violation appears to put people or property in immediate danger, call 911. The Tacoma Police Department will have special enforcement patrols and regular patrols to respond to fireworks related calls.

For more information about fireworks safety, burn prevention and local Fourth of July events, visit www.cityoftacoma.org or call the Tacoma Fire Prevention and Preparedness Bureau at (253) 591-5740.

You’d think the Jack Booted Thugs would let citizens celebrate Independence Day the way it was intended to be….. Go deal with the Gang Problem and let honest citizens alone.

A friendly reminder, and it will have to suffice, because the cops won’t do anything about it. Oh well – nothing says America like a bunch of barefoot and mulleted Tacomans playing with explosives.

  3. Good for Tacoma.

Now if they will REALLY enforce the ban then all will be much quieter.

People go absolutly nuts this time of year.

I hope one of the good things out of the bad economy will be fewer fireworks.

Well I see TNT is at it again with their censorship. Good thing the First Amendment is just BS. I still have 257 bucks that says the TPD won’t bother or give a crap about the fireworks. And as I have asked before, who put this ordinance on the books any how. I sure don’t remember it coming before the voters. Oh wait thats right. In Washington, if Gregoire doesn’t like what the voters approve she will just amend it and make up her own law.

whoever whines about fireworks on the fourth or new years must have a lame boring life..i would never call the cops for someone lighting fireworks on the fourth or new years..now if theyre comming by my house or my neighbors id tell them to point em the other way..but call the cops on a day that is pretty much based around fireworks..stupid..ill be lighting them off..right in front of my house…if the neighbors cant take one or two nights of noise then theyre the ones that are stressin themselves out..

it is not a problem. Hey all you gang members take out your gats tween 10-12 pm, that would be when the big hand is on the number ten and stop shooting when the big hand get to the number 12. So remember the time when this Country first defied the tyrants as it is getting closer to the day when we will do it again. Oh dont forget this is too happen on the 4th night of July. Since most of you did not finish school, the date July 4th, 1776 is when the Continental people from England rebelled and sought to create a more perfect Union. But alas the Jackass’s in power now are a whole lot worse then King George ever was. King George is not to be confused with the confused lil George Bush. But thats another lesson altogether.

Judging by the previous responses, Tacoma must have some of the most ignorant people on the face of the earth. All of them have pathetic excuses for presenting a clear argument using sentence structures that a 10 year-old would be ashamed of writing. No wonder the fat cat funded tea party has been able to snow a bunch of pin-headed people that they are a grass roots movement trying to “take their country back”. Go ahead and have fun with your fireworks. When you burn yourself while demonstrating your freedom of expression, you can blame the Chinese for making them and causing your injury.

  8. Oh, come on. Getting burned is half the fun.
